One Year, One Outfit
One year, One Outfit is a cohort-based project that responds to consumerism and the damaging effects of fast fashion. Folks who reside in the Rust Belt Fibershed region (within 250 miles of Cleveland) create an outfit through a soil-to-soil supply chain: fiber and dyes are grown, harvested, and made into a garment, and all garments are able to return to the soil at the end of their life cycle. Many outfits are created in partnership with other members of the cohort and with farmers, fiber guilds, community gardens, and/or local art studios. The project is built around skill and tool sharing and a shared passion to solve problems by looking at our regional and personal talents, passions, and gifts. The project aims to create a paradigm shift towards relating to the Earth and our communities with care and is organized by the Rust Belt Fibershed as an invitation for us to question the origin of our clothes. Anyone can join!

Build Community through cohort meetings, learning experiences, meet-ups, and more.
Create a collection of stories and a body of work that will provide a glimpse of our unique region and steward our valuable material and human resources.
Collectively re-skill for more self-empowerment related to materiality within our community.

One Year, One Outfit - Cohort 2, 2022!
Participants of the first One Year, One Outfit Challenge are working as individuals or teams of up to design, source, and create one outfit (defined as 3 distinct garments or accessories) within a cohort of other makers. At the close of the season, participants will exhibit their completed outfits at the Wave Pool Gallery in Cincinnati from May 13- June 16 2023.
