Flora Adora Fibers specializes in non superwash yarns, naturally dyed using techniques that minimize water use, promote reuse of mordants and dyes, and use food grade ingredients to bind dyes to yarn. Dye materials are responsibly foraged, grown or purchased from sustainable sources. Flora Adora Fiber’s purpose is to support others with sustainability & appreciation, making a positive impact on each other and the world at large. Also to keep alive the centuries-long practice of natural dyeing. I utilize historic and local natural dyes to produce soft, soothing color palettes on uncommon natural yarns, including Heritage breeds when possible. Current small batch offerings include Romeldale/CVM, Jacob and Tunis. I grow a number of my dyes, and forage on my property for others, as well as using historic dyes such as cochineal, indigo and madder. One goal is to expand use of home grown and foraged dyes. More and more, I’m working to source local and regional wool, use nearby mills and include single breed and heritage breed yarns in my offerings. I’m specifically interested in finding shepherds in eastern Ohio, western Pennsylvania and southern Michigan to partner with.
